iRecover Advocates for Addiction AwarenessCategories: News and Updates
By: Jenna Pattison
One in 10 Canadians suffers with a substance abuse disorder, and no one is exempt. Addiction does not discriminate and affects people from all walks of life. Addictions Awareness Week, November 26 to December 2, aims to raise awareness of the epidemic facing Canada and challenge the stigma and negative stereotypes associated with addiction. iRecover will be hosting a few special events to promote and support the movement and spread the message of hope and recovery. On November 27, iRecover Newfoundland will be holding a Road to Recovery Luncheon at Cornerbrook Greenwood Inn and Suites, with special guest speaker Heather J, who will share her own personal story of recovery. Tickets are $25 each; if you’re interested in attending, please call (709) 693-0046 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
On November 29, iRecover Newfoundland and Western Health are excited to present a screening of Andy Irons Kissed By God, which chronicles three-time world champion surfer Andy Irons and his struggles with bipolar disorder and opioid addiction. Admission to this event is FREE and includes beef stew, toutons, coffee and tea. Jim Gray will be hosting a Q&A after the film, where we will discuss addiction, recovery and common barriers to seeking treatment. Join us at 6PM at the Birchy Head Recreation Center in Bonne Bay for this spectacular event. We look forward to seeing you there!
